“Valley Home” ten Cate Residence, Vandeleur

This home in the Beaver Valley sought to blend the Niagara Escarpment landscape with the mixed Dutch and Ontario sensibilities of its owners. Long and slim in plan, it perches on the hillside, taking its form and colouration from the surrounding firs and grass fields. Its plan shape permits it to draw sunlight all day while taking advantage of long views and valley breezes. It is organized so that the owners may live on just the main level as they age, with the other floors closed off for energy efficiency. Winner of the Niagara Escarpment's Development Achievement Award.
